Banned Book Week

One of my favorite activities each year is introducing banned books to 5th graders.  They are always so surprised by the concept and also to find out that many of their beloved books are on the lists!

A Great Time

We had a wonderful time with our summer readers this afternoon. We had so many students that we needed to hold two parties - one for the lower grades and another for the big kids. Students had lots of options to chose from as they walked down the row of tables. Of course, we also gave out some door prizes before sending them back to class! The top picture is actually the end of the party - these are my 5th graders and this is their last reading party - most of them have been every year - so I wanted a special picture with them!

We are ready!

Our summer reading celebration is this afternoon!  It takes me at least three trips to the Scholastic warehouse to accumulate all of these great prizes and about 3 hours to set it all up!
We are ready - the first party is at 1:00 and the second party is at 2:15.
