Virtual Reality - We Want More!

Fifth graders were able to experience virtual reality during library time today.  We only own one Oculus Go headset, but other DPS schools graciously loaned us theirs, so we had a total of ten headsets to use.  Students were engaged and excited and I absolutely loved watching some of them hold a friends hand or give them a comforting hug when a few students tried something that they do not like to do in real life like riding a Roller Coaster. Students are anxious to try this again - there is a little bit of a learning curve to get the hang of picking new apps and figuring out how they work and with over 25 students in each class,  no one had as much time as they wanted! I have a feeling Santa is going to have a lot of requests to put this under the tree!

When the last students were leaving, Mrs. Bridenstine tried it out and agreed that it was amazing!

How to Catch Santa

Recently, our awesome principal, Mrs. Bridenstine, read this book on Facebook live as a bedtime story for our students. (How cool is that!)  The book has been donated to our media center so that students may continue to enjoy it!

#HourOfCode

We started our Hour of Code a little early since lower grades only come every two weeks.  Third graders watched a short video that demonstrated how coding has to be EXACT to work correctly.  Then they sat with their backs to a partner - one partner drew a simple outline drawing while giving exact directions for their partner to follow. If the "coding" was exact, both partners would draw the same thing, even though the second partner did not know what they were drawing!

Design a Parade Balloon - First Grade

We read the book "Balloons Over Broadway" and then viewed two very short videos - one about the history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and one that previewed the new balloons we can look for in this year's parade.  Then, students designed a balloon they would like to see added to the parade.
