April is Poetry Month!

We have a different schedule during Milestones testing, but we still participate in National Poetry Month.  I think it is a great break from testing!  Fifth graders learned about "Blackout Poetry" and then created and shared their own.

Testing Readiness

We will be starting the Georgia Milestones testing soon.  What better way to learn about all the online tools available to use during testing than a DIGITAL BREAKOUT!   For 3rd graders it was their first time to try one, but 4th and 5th grade classes have have participated in Digital Breakouts in the media center previously.  It's a fun way to learn skills and team work.

More MakerSpace Photos

We have had quite a few inventors lately - so just posting a few pics of the finished products.

Enjoy your spring break!

Last day before spring break and it was picture day.  Should have taken a photo of each class as they looked so dapper today!  But here is the one photo I managed to get!  (We are so going to miss this story area next year!)

The Journey of Curious George

Fifth graders combined almanac and map skills to learn more about the true "Journey of Curious George" which really happened during World War II, which they are currently learning about in class.
We used printed almanacs and Google Maps to visit and learn about the places that are in the book.

Augmented Reality

We love using augmented and virtual reality in the media center.  Unfortunately, we do not have many options due to the age of our devices.  However, I was fortunate to find this cool app - Dino on my Desk - that will work with our old iPads!   So, we read the book "Can I Have a Stegasaurus, Mom?" and then we used the Dino on my Desk App and the ChatterPix Pix to record videos to convince Mom or Dad to let us bring these cute AR dinos home!

Read Across America Week

We had a lot of fun this week as we celebrated Read Across America Week!

Each day we had a different Dr. Seuss Book to help us celebrate and we ended the week with a guest reader in EVERY classroom!

Thanks so much!

Thank you to everyone who came to and shopped at the book fair.  It was our biggest sale ever!  The profits from the book fairs allow us to purchase new books, pay for digital services, such as Book Flix, and pay for two author visits each year.  Our students love meeting the authors and learning from them.  You can look through past blog entries to see photos from previous author visits.

And a BIG THANK YOU to all of our wonderful volunteers!  We couldn't do this without you!

The Book Fair is Coming!

Our next book fair opens on February 1st and will be open during school hours, until February 8th when we will close promptly at noon.   We will have LOTS of wonderful books!  In addition, we will have a VIRTUAL (online) book fair that will start on January 29th and run for one week longer than the school book fair.  The online fair will have even more choices and all purchases will ship FREE to your child at school.

Visit out Book Fair Homepage for more info or to sign up to volunteer!
