I think one of the best ways to introduce some new books and get kids excited about reading is to hold a book tasting! Everyone gets to sample or "taste" a little of several books. Students look over and read the first part of a book, filling out a Google form as they go along. Then they may put a hold on books they are excited about. Most of the books that 4th and 5th grade tasted were books nominated for the Georgia Chapter Book Award this year.
