Makerspace is evolving! When I first set up our makerspace several years ago, I left it open for kids to decide what they wanted to do. Now, I know that some kids need the entire time they have to just make up their minds. So to help them, I am setting up stations and they choose from the stations offered. This seems to take a lot of the "pressure" off and we are seeing more students visit. Also we are modeling this in classes, so that all kids know what to expect when they come to makerspace. Upper grades for now and soon we will do this with the lower grades, too. However, if a student comes to makerspace with a plan to build or an item they want to invent, they can still do whatever it is they have planned.
