We started out state testing today and so we have a modified specials schedule on testing days. Since the time is shorter for library I thought I would try something different with the 5th graders today. I was hoping that it would be a creative outlet for them after testing. After I explained black-out poetry to them and gave them some newspapers and pages from some discarded books to choose from, they set to work. You could have heard a pin drop in the room! They were so involved trying their hand at creating this new (to them) kind of poetry! I will add more pictures as the other 5th grade classes come, too, over the next several days!
Technically, not all of our poems were "black" out - the kids liked using other colors and some were even brave enough to share their poems with their classmates!
