Finding the perfect book to read
I love when a student is so involved in finding the book she wants to read that she does not even notice when I take her picture!

Read Together ~ Lean juntos
Brookwood has a new series of books called “We Both Read” that has 24 titles with text in English and Spanish to encourage parents to read with their children. These books may be borrowed by parents from a convenient spot in the front office. Books may be returned to the office or the Media Center by either parents or students.
Studies show that there are many benefits of parents and children reading together. Just a few of the benefits are:
· Children learn by example. Reading with your child shows that reading is important to you and sets a good example.
· The only way to become a good reader is to practice.
· Children who are read to at home have a higher success rate in school.
We hope that you and your child will enjoy these new books together!

Reading Makes Me Happy!
Of all the things I do, I am not sure that anything makes me happier than seeing a student excited because a book she has been wanting to read is waiting on her when she comes to the library!

Dropping the Dewey Decimals
This project is taking longer than I anticipated, but so far, I am getting a lot of good feedback from the students about this. I have been working on dropping the decimals from our non-fiction collection and relabeling the shelves to make it easier for students to find what they need. I am concentrating on the 500's, 700's and 900's first as those sections are used the most. For now, we are not relabeling books unless we move them to another Dewey number altogether. I keep forgetting to take pictures, but here are a few:

Mrs. Brown's Researchers!
Mrs. Brown brought her first grade class to the media center twice this week to use PebbleGo to research an animal. They did a great job of finding information and recording it!

2nd Grade Researchers
Second grade students are working on a research project with a partner. They are searching for information about a famous person who was born in Georgia. Two requirements are that they use several reliable sources to find their information and that they cite their sources. We are using PebbleGo, FactCite, a Pathfinder on the Media Wiki, and books from the library.

Lorax Day
We finished up our Dr. Seuss week by celebrating "The Lorax." Students and staff were invited to wear orange or yellow or a mustache or all three! We had lots of fun!
